My Review Of The Cold Steel Black Talon Folding Knife - Is It Worth The Money?

My Review Of The Cold Steel Black Talon Folding Knife - Is It Worth The Money?

"WOW, that is one MEAN looking knife!" You will start to hear this phrase more and more if you pick up one of Cold Steel's Black Talon folding knives.

Looks aside, the Black Talon is made with the highest quality materials. With a suggested retail value of 9.99, you should expect a top-notch piece of work.

I was fortunate enough to get my very own Black Talon for a good price recently and here are my thoughts:

What I like About It:

1. Black Talon is not just a clever name. It describes the "talon-style" point on the knife. This feature is perhaps the MEANEST looking part of the knife.

2. The blade is made from VG-1 San Mai III steel which is unique to Cold Steel. My Black Talon was RAZOR sharp out of the box.

San Mai steel is so great because you get the edge retention and toughness of VG-1 stainless combined with the flexibility of 400 series stainless.

3. The pocket clip is reversible. I'm right handed, but many of left-handed friends are limited to certain pocketknives because they are only made for right-handed use.

4. The Black Talon's blade is hollow ground. This means that the blade gets thinner the closer you get to the edge. This feature gives the black talon a DEVASTATINGLY sharp cutting edge.

5. G-10 handle feels nice in your hand. Almost like sandpaper.

What I don't like:

1. The Point is VERY thin. This is good for puncturing and precise cuts. It is bad because it makes the tip somewhat vulnerable to breaking under hard enough use.

2. Cold Steel's Black Talon is very expensive. Unless you know where to get a good deal, you're gonna be forking out almost half a GRAND!

Overall: The Black Talon is worth the hefty price tag. Amazing materials + Gorgeous design = Awesome knife.

This is Your Brain on Technology - The Effect of Technology on Social Interaction

This is Your Brain on Technology - The Effect of Technology on Social Interaction

What did people do with their time 20 years ago? How did we ever manage without personal computers, the Internet, cell phones, iPods and 24 hour cable news? The technological landscape is vastly different these days and scientist are wondering just what that means for our brains.

According to research done last year by UCLA scientist Dr. Gary Small, daily doses of technology may be altering the way the brain functions, particularly in social skills. He suggests that all that screen time may weaken the brain circuits involved in face-to-face interactions. He is concerned that fundamental social skills like reading facial expressions during a conversation are being compromised.

Small is particularly concerned about what he calls the digital native, those in their twenties and younger who have been "digitally hard-wired since toddlerhood." As he explained in an Associated Press article, the digital native runs the risk of being socially awkward and isolated by their inability to interpret non-verbal messages from people. He is afraid this may be particularly true in the classroom that still relies on traditional verbal instruction along with interaction with the teacher and other students.

Small argues his case in his book "iBrain: Surviving the Technological Altercation of the Modern Mind." He admits that his research about whether or not all this technology is changing brain circuitry is new and ongoing.

Other studies, in fact, have taken the opposite tact by seeing positive outcomes for technology users. A MacArthur Foundation study found that teens feel very connected to each other through online social networking. The study allayed some parents' fears that teenagers are vulnerable to online predators the more time they spend socially on the Internet. "The study found that most teenagers steer clear of dangerous sites and use the Web only for research or to communicate with established friends," according to an article in the Austin-American Statesman.

Parents who are too protective and prohibit computer use for their teens may be keeping their kids out of the broader social loop. The study found that teenagers move between the online social world and the face-to-face interactions with relative ease, one building on the other.

Dr. Maryanne Wolf of Tufts University thinks technology may even affect how people learn to read. Technology requires users to gather information quickly, rather than the more methodical and sophisticated methods of comprehending regular reading material. She is studying if this rapid information gathering could be changing the normal brain pathways formed when reading. She is particularly curious about the affect on young children as technology becomes a more integral component of modern classrooms.

As with any new information technology, like 50 years ago with the inclusion of television to the average American home, there will be curiosity and controversy. It is certainly hard to imagine how our brains waited for the morning paper or the evening news to hear what was going on in the world around us. It seems like each generation has a quicker learning curve when it comes to the latest technology. That could just be human nature, or it could be the circuitry of the brain changing and adapting to the technologically saturated world in which we live.

Black and Decker Toaster Oven Reviews - Toaster Oven Ratings 2010

Black and Decker Toaster Oven Reviews - Toaster Oven Ratings 2010

If you have already decided on a Black and Decker toaster oven as the brand of choice, this article should help you decide on the best model. If you are considering other brands, then consider the prices on offer from B&D. You may be surprised at the value they offer.

Whether you are looking for an under cabinet toaster oven to save space in a busy kitchen or a secondary oven, the range of modern toaster ovens will cover your every need. However from the myriad of models on the market I am picking out three excellent choices at different price brands.

So on to the toaster oven ratings awarded for each of the three picks of 2010.

The best budget model

The CTO6120B Toast-R-Oven CounterTop Oven is my pick in the best budget category which can be bought online for around . With great functionality and offering excellent value for money it is an excellent choice. The dimensions are 14.25 x 18 x 11.5 inches, however packs a lot in with 1500 watts of cooking power, and plenty of internal capacity. It will toast, bake, broil and reheat and is large enough for a 12" pizza. It will toast up to 6-slices of bread at a time, and also features a 60-minute timer and auto shut off. The best toaster oven ratings are reserved for the models with great functionality and a broad range of cooking functions. This is one of the best on the market and gets a highly respectable 4.5 stars out of 5.

Best option for a limited space

In a small kitchen or a camper van, space is at a premium and many people cannot commit the necessary counter space for a toaster oven. However an under cabinet toaster oven takes up no counter space and utilises dead space in a kitchen. It provides plenty of scope for cooking however they are generally smaller than the countertop ovens. The SpaceMaker range packs a lot of punch into a small space and the best of the range is the sleek black SpaceMaker TROS1500B. These ovens are easily mounted to the underside of a cabinet without the need for power tools. This model is compact at 10.6 x 11.4 x 18.1 inches, however two units can be combined and operated from a single plug source using the Black & Decker Save-A-Plug™ system. A smaller oven size means you are restricted to 4 pieces of toast at a time or a 9 inch pizza; however the oven broils, bakes and reheats as well as the countertop range. This model is available from around . It gets 4 stars out of 5 for convenience; however its use is quite limited due to size restrictions for this type of oven.

Top of the range

If you can stretch the budget a little, for only 0 you can pick up an oven which has redefined home cooking, and gives something a little special. Capable of giving a microwave a run for its money, at the top end of the price range you have the Infrawave oven series. It utilises light rather than heat radiation to cook perfectly. The oven uses both long and short frequency Infrared light to cook the surface and centre perfectly and with maximum efficiency.

Cooking can be completed in half the time of a conventional oven making this a great environmentally friendly choice. It requires no preheating and can challenge a microwave in terms of speed, whilst providing that authentic oven crunch to food. It comes with an instructional DVD to run through the full range of features and uses. It has 52 preset cooking options to ensure the perfect meal each time, and will time for 2 hours with an auto shut off and an easy clean digital display. It is a sleek and stylish addition to any kitchen and the FC150BR InfraWave Speed-Cooking Countertop Oven gets our full 5-star rating.

Whilst this article selects the best options within each range you cannot go far wrong with any model of Black and Decker toaster oven. If you wish to compare prices and specifications of the other leading brands on the market, the key names to look out for which guarantee high quality are Cusinart, Krups, Delonghi, Oster and Breville.

Free Stuff - Get Free Stuff, No Strings Attached

Free Stuff, free samples, free trials, freebies, schwag, call it what you want people love to get things for free especially when there are no strings attached.  It makes us feel smart and like we are a savvy shopper when we see someone else paying for it.  Marketers have been giving away free stuff for over a hundred years but with the advent of the Internet the rate has grown exponentially.

Why Do Companies Give Away Free Stuff?

Companies give you their products to try out in the hopes that they can influence you into being a life time customer. Also they want to get feedback from potential customers to see whether there is a market for it.

Collecting Personal Information

Companies also like to collect personal information from their customer base in order as it gives them an idea of who is interested in buying them. It also helps them to improve their products by using the feedback to improve the packaging design, logos, slogans and marketing techniques. .

Avoid Scams

There are a handful of rebill scams that have been circulating around the Internet.  These are usually related to diet fads such as the Acai Berry and Reseveretol.  The way it works is that they will offer you a free trial and you only have to pay for shipping and handling. Usually within 14 days you will be entered into a monthly rebill.  This is usually spelled out in the terms and services. The only problem is that they make it all but impossible to cancel.  If you have any doubts about the company check out Scams.com or ConsumerComplaints.com before you take a free trial.

The Truth About Fit Flops

The Truth About Fit Flops

Why do most teenagers own more flip flop sandals than any other shoes? Much has been published about the dangers of daily flip flop wearing, but this generation continues to don them on a daily basis.

Biomechanical engineers in the UK have touted (and backed up their claim with real science) the "Fit Flop" as a way to tone your butt, legs, calves and thighs while walking. Refreshingly, a side effect of wearing "Fit Flops" appears to be a decrease in stress on your feet, legs and back decreasing wear and tear as well as some common achy pains.

Why is this? The "Fit Flop" is engineered much like a "barefoot technology" shoe. It makes the muscles that stabilize the foot work harder and over a period of time can actually strengthen your feet. The common flip-flop actually accentuates pronation, the rolling in of your feet which causes fatigue and biomechanical stress in your feet and lower legs. This can lead to overuse injuries like plantar fasciitis and posterior tibial tendonitis which are commonly known as "arch fatigue" or "fallen arches". Flip-flop sandals also increase the stress on the great toe joint and can accelerate Hallux abducto valgus also known as "bunion" formation. Different midsole densitities actually accelerate the propulsion phase of gait, decreasing the stress on the great toe joint and decreasing injuries. Those people suffering from bunions may make them their daily shoe gear!

The makers of "Fit Flops" have some good science behind their claim to increase muscle activation 10-12% and it was verified by an independent lab outside their company. Consumers should be cautioned to wear the "Fit Flops" gradually because of the delayed muscle soreness that occurs just like the beginning of a work out routine.

Is the "Fit Flop" the answer to your workout woes? Can your foot problems be a thing of the past? Not even close, no shoe can do that! They can help you burn a few more calories during your daily routine, but cardiac fitness can never be achieved in this manner. A new sandal, no matter how effecive, cannot replace your daily fitness routine. Do no skip your workout. Maybe a curvier calf muscle or thinner thigh, but just walking in a sandal cannot achieve real fitness.

Can anyone wear a "Fit Flop?" Caution should be taken in picking any shoe. Foot type is important to evaluate. The "Fit Flop" is not for you if you have a significantly flexible flat foot due to the destabilizing technology built in to the sandal which can actually accentuate stress injuries in this unstable foot type. If you require in-shoe foot orthotics, the "Fit Flop" is probably not for you.

Bottom line: "Fit Flops" are a good alternative to the common flip-flop sandal but should be worn gradually. Pay attention to any fatigue in your feet! If you have any foot pain or injury, visit your podiatrist and ask their advice on your ability to wear "Fit Flops."

Should You Wait Until Black Friday?

Should You Wait Until Black Friday?

I must admit that I am guilty of shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. While not a true trooper (I don't spend the night), I do wake up super early and try to hit the stores shortly after they open. Basically this means that those 0 computers will be out of reach for me. But there are other deals to be had.

The real question is whether it is worth waiting in line for the cheap computers, otherwise known as "doorbusters". These doorbusters are deals that are too good to be true and are only available in limited quantities.

Before the explosion of the internet and eBay in particular, regular folks actually had a chance at getting one of these good deals. After all, people in line were getting something for themselves. But now online auctioneers are out in droves on Black Friday. Getting a great deal on the Friday after Thanksgiving. If they can get a good deal and resell at a profit then why not wait in line?

So what does that mean to the rest of us? Should we just give up or should we try and brave the crowds? What I have found is that the big ticket items with the biggest discounts are sold out quickly. But items of lesser value are more readily available later into the day. I usually find some great prices on technology media like memory cards, mini dv tapes, cd's , dvd's, and the like. Deals on clothing, and non-technology items are also easier to find.

A little prep work goes a long way in getting what you want. Making a list ahead of time of the stores you want to visit, and the items that you plan to buy from each store is essential. Also deciding the order in which you will visit stores will help keep the morning organized and running smoothly - this is especially key if you are shopping with other people as they will have their own list of priorities.

One little known secret is that many online retailers also try to get in on the hype and offer their own sales. So if you would rather shop from the comfort of home then hit the internet running and you may find a few steals while everyone else is at the mall. And this is even before Cyber Monday.

As for me, I honestly enjoy the spirit of comraderie and competition that I find in the wee hours of the morning on the busiest of all shopping days. And the best part is heading out for a hot breakfast after we are completely tuckered out.

How to Plan a Thrilling Halloween Event

How to Plan a Thrilling Halloween Event

This year, why not do something truly special for Halloween and make it season to remember? Throwing a thrilling Halloween party is easier, more affordable, and more exciting than you may think. Read on for our best tips.

Step 1 - Scare the Date

This year, Halloween falls on a Monday, so you'll most likely want to schedule your Halloween bash for the previous Friday or Saturday night. Once you've selected the date, why not put out a "Scare the Date" invite to friends and neighbors? This is quick and easy to do with a service like evite.com.

Step 2 - Decorate to Impress

No Halloween party is complete with extensive decorations. Fortunately, All Hallow's Eve is one of the easiest and least expensive occasions when it comes to decor. Plan on "spider webs" made from batting, a black light bulb or two, bags of plastic spiders and the like.

Step 3 - Plan the Snacks

This is where the planning really starts to get fun. Now you can certainly keep the cost of your gathering low by inviting your guests to bring a snack or a dish (or beverage, or both) to share, but the refreshments really give you some fun and interesting ways to enhance the theme of your party. Consider the following:

Lady "fingers" with red icing on the tips

"Kitty Litter" cake

Red "blood" punch (with or without "preservative")

"eyeball stew" (meatballs in sauce)

Use your imagination and go crazy!

Step 4 - Add Ambiance

Time to spook-i-fy your gathering with scary sounds and images. Don't settle for one of those hokey sound-effects CDs -- instead, bring Halloween to life in vibrant color with a rental projector and your favorite scary movies. The list is virtually endless, from classics like "The Shining" and "Friday the 13th" to kid-friendly classics like "The Great Pumpkin" and "Garfield's Halloween" to off-beat humor with a dash of the macabre, such as the cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Whatever you choose, movie images add a certain flair to your gathering, and help fill any lulls in lively conversation.

Step 5 - Fun Activities

For some groups and gatherings, food and drink and mingling just isn't enough. If your group is on the shy side, or you're including a group of people who don't know each other well, why not add an activity or two to get the party mood going? This might include a costume contest, a Halloween trivia challenge, or a simple test of skill or brain power. Offer prizes to encourage everyone to participate.

Step 6 - Parting Gifts

Everyone appreciates a party favor, as a takeaway memento of the experience. These need not be elaborate or expensive -- remember, it's the thought that counts. It might include goody bags for the kids, or goblets for the adults, or simply a spider ring or a glow-in-the-dark bracelet or two.

No matter how big or small your Halloween party may be, be sure to include an LCD rental projector for that added ambiance.

Black Friday Deals for Apple iPad in 2010 - Verizon Wireless Sells Table Device for Christmas

Black Friday Deals for Apple iPad in 2010 - Verizon Wireless Sells Table Device for Christmas

As we are getting very close to Halloween 2010 many Americans will begin to start thinking about Christmas gift ideas for their loved ones. One of the most popular gift ideas in 2010 is likely to be the Apple iPad. With this item being very hot many customers will hope that there are Black Friday iPad sales at retailers such as Verizon Wireless, Wal-Mart or Target. Unfortunately, this item continues to fly off the shelves so it is very unlikely that we will see any sales or deals for this tablet device during the holiday shopping season.

Before making any final decisions on a Christmas gift for your children, husband or wife in 2010 it is always important to see what will be on sale during the major shopping days. There is no doubt that Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year as millions of Americans will be out and about looking for the best possible discounts for items that they hoped to buy as Christmas presents. With there being many retailers offering steep discounts on very popular items it is always a good idea to plan ahead and think about which types of big-ticket items will be the best Christmas ideas.

There has been great interest in the Apple iPad as millions of people throughout the world have purchased this item in 2010. It is quite amazing to see the sales growth of this item as anything Apple throws out there seems to sell very well. Now that the iPad has been around for several months it will be very interesting to see if the growth continues through the Christmas holiday. It will very likely be the case that many children and young adults will ask for this item as a Christmas gift but if there are no sales on this item it could be the case that customers resort to other tablet devices.

Over the next few weeks it will be the case that many people begin to start thinking about the holiday shopping season. Even though Black Friday is well over a month away it is still the case that thrifty shoppers begin to think about all of the possibilities to save money. If someone starts to ask you what a good Christmas gift idea would be then you know that this is a thrifty shopper that is already planning for the sales and deals that will be available during the busiest shopping day of the year.

Pasta Milano - A Delicious Macaroni Grill Favorite You Can Make at Home

Pasta Milano - A Delicious Macaroni Grill Favorite You Can Make at Home

I love to go to Romano's Macaroni Grill. From smell of the open fire grill as I open the front door to the sound of the singing waiters as I set down at my table, I love it all.

Unfortunately for me, on my very first visit I tried the Pasta Milano and fell so deeply in love with it that I have not been able to order anything else. I try. I really do. It all looks so good. From the brick-oven-cooked BBQ Chicken Pizza and the Penne Rustica to the Seafood Linguine, from the Chicken Portobello to the Honey Balsamic Chicken -- I am dying to try it all.

And I have every good intention to do so. I study the menu from top to bottom -- finally picking out Grilled Salmon or Chicken Marsala. I can already taste it.

But as soon as the waiter approaches -- Bam! I point to the Pasta Milano.

Oh well, at least I do always enjoy my dinner.

But recently I found something that should make my next trip a surprise to my friends. Copycat restaurant recipes are appearing all over the web and some of them are very good. One of the first ones I looked for was, of course, Pasta Milano. I found a recipe and started making the dish at home for myself. It is just as good at home as it is at Romano's (though I do miss the singing waiters).

Thanks to this copycat restaurant recipe my next trip to Romano's Macaroni Grill ought to follow a different script. I am now free to look over the wonderful menu and order one of the other dishes I have so often craved. I can hardly wait!

Should I get Chicken & Shrimp Scaloppine or Honey Balsamic Chicken or Sicilian Pizza...or...

Some of the sales that will often be considered include the deals that are available on digital cameras. Each and every year more and more Americans buy cameras as they want to take pictures and save these pictures on a computer rather than having a printed copy.

When thinking about a 2010 Christmas gift idea it is often the case that many parents and grandparents think about giving their children and grandchildren a new camera. With the advancements in technology it is now the case that almost everyone in America wants a digital camera as they are light weight, small and can fit in your pocket. One of the major electronics retailers in the United States happens to be Best Buy and they often offer many deals and sales when it comes to these cameras on the day after Thanksgiving.

Before making any final decisions when it comes to buying a digital camera it is always important to do research and understand just what your loved ones want. When it comes to gadget devices it is often the case that many people are very picky. If you pick out the wrong type of advanced camera it may be the case that you have to return it on the day after Christmas as the person receiving the gift will want the camera that they had initially thought they were going to get.

Unfortunately, it tends to be the case that there are many options available when it comes to purchasing a digital camera on Black Friday. There are many companies that offer great new cameras and most of these companies are willing to put them on sale during the busiest times of the year. This makes it very difficult for those who want to come up with a completely unique gift for the loved ones in their life. Sometimes it is a wise decision to just ask which type of digital camera is best. Once again, it is unfortunate but each situation dictates which digital camera will be the best fit. One of the most important things to do is to just ask your loved ones to write down the exact name and model of the digital camera that they would like to have on Christmas morning.

One way to save on Best Buy digital camera sales is to do research in advance. The Black Friday and cyber Monday ads will likely be released at the beginning of November so make certain to check out which cameras are available. Remember to do research on this cameras as you will want to select a camera that is of good quality. Going to Consumer Reports could help with this process. Look for the popularity of these sales to grow this year as many people want to save money.

Madonna the Idol

Madonna the Idol

It's been said that you achieve true fame if the world knows you by just one name. Madonna Louise Cicccone, or else Madonna, kept just one name but reinvented her image countless times, becoming one of the most successful performers of all times. Educated in Catholic schools as a child, Madonna danced her way to a four year scholarship at the University of Michigan and then New York's Alvin Ailey School. After recording her debut album in 1983, her rise was meteoric, aided by the popularity of MTV, as she shocked and dared the public with her visible black lacy brassieres, bare midriff, outspokenness about virginity, abortion and out-of-wedlock births.

Madonna was born in Bay City, Michigan, the eldest of eight children (surely an error here as she is the eldest daughter, but third eldest child). Her father, Tony, was an engineer at Chrysler, her mother, whose name she was given, a housewife. Later, the family was to move south to Pontiac where she shared a room with two sisters. As a girl, Madonna spent her summers working in her father's vegetable garden weeding and spraying insecticide, or she was sent to her grandparents' house in Pennsylvania where she would be expected to work on the house and garden. The regime was rooted in instilling ethical work.

The family was devoutly Catholic. On Good Friday, her mother would place a purple cloth over all the religious pictures and statues in the house. This was before she fell ill with breast cancer, which would take her life when Madonna was six. Like many children who lose a parent, Madonna expected her mother to return. But nobody talked about it. For years it seemed that way. Three years later, her father married again, this time to the family housekeeper who never acknowledged Madonna as her mother did. Going t church before school, doing housework that was assigned by dad's chore chart, and no TV. This, incidentally, is her top tip for successful parenthood; no TV. Madonna was expected to defrost the freezer, wash the dishes, baby sit, and vacuum. She was a voracious reader and loved the stories her mother told her about a garden involving vegetables and a rabbit.

Like many teenagers, she knew that she would leave for the big city as quickly as she could. She says that she knew she wanted to leave Michigan from the age of five. She lasted one term at her Home-state University on a dance scholarship. Her heart wasn't in it. Even though she'd never visited, there was really only one place for her: New York, the true home of the ambitious. She arrived, in her late teens, at La Guardia airport and took a taxi to Times Square. She had no money or connections and lived hand to mouth, eventually settling in a tenement on the Lower East Side at 4th and Avenue B. Every weekend she went dubbing in search of A&R personnel and DJs who might be able to assist her career. She recalls dancing to 'Don't You Want Me' by the Human League at New York's famous Danceteria club. With her first royalty paycheck, she bought a synthesizer and a bike which she had to carry up all six flights to her new apartment, a loft on Broome and West Broadway. Deep down she also carried much resentment about her family, was often unhappy and relied greatly on music, which she has written was 'a vehicle for transcending misery (the story of my life)' to get her through thin times.

Anyway, it is a pretty strange thing to sit and think about the fact that Madonna is one of the most famous women in the world. Fame is the defining aspect of her life, even more than her music, style, or the movies. Madonna will be remembered for being one of the most relentlessly self-realized people of the century. Along with Monroe and Ali, Madonna will be remembered for defining the times by inventing and changing and promoting herself with ambition and, in so doing, providing us with a way of understanding ourselves and remembering what we used to dance to, who we used to be.

Why is it Called Black Friday? The History and Origin of Black Friday

Why is it Called Black Friday? The History and Origin of Black Friday

You have probably heard of "Black Friday". This is the the day after Thanksgiving when retail outlets offer special early bird sales and deals for the Holiday season. You may even have gotten up in the wee hours of the morning to go to the stores and get your share of these super special sales. If this is the case, you are sure not alone.

Each year, the stores are packed with crowds looking to save some money and bring home gifts at the lowest prices possible. If you have ever wondered why it is called Black Friday or how this tradition started, read on to learn more about the history of retail's biggest day of the year.

Why Is It Called "Black Friday"?

Interestingly enough, there are two ways that this shoppers holiday got it's name. At the very beginning of the tradition, people we so eager for deals that they swarmed the shopping centers. This resulted in traffic accidents and other unfortunate altercations amongst the crowds. Back in 1966, the Philadelphia Police Department coined the term "Black Friday" to describe this phenomenon.

The other meaning of the term came later and gets its origins from an accounting term to mean profit for the retailers. Where as being "in the red" indicates a loss, being "in the black" means profits. As the popularity of these sales caught on, retailers could expect a very profitable day on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Black Friday has marked the beginning of the Holiday shopping season since the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924,. Before it was known by what we call it now, it was simply "After Thanksgiving Sales". Then as now it was one of the single busiest days of the year. During the Great Depression, President Roosevelt changed the date of Thanksgiving to a week earlier so that merchants could have more shopping days in the season in which to sell their wares.

These days, Black Friday has become so popular with shoppers that many larger retailers open their doors as early as Midnight on Thanksgiving in order to get the most hours out of the day.

Kershaw Junkyard Dog Folding Knife Review

Kershaw Junkyard Dog Folding Knife Review

Some knives are meant to sit on a shelf or display case and look pretty. The Kershaw Junkyard Dog is not one of those knives. Although this knife is appealing to the eye, you can tell that it is meant to take a lot of hard use.

Here are my honest thoughts on the Kershaw Junkyard Dog folding knife:

What I like about the knife:

1. Kershaw is fond of their liner lock design, and for good reason. It is a time proven locking system that offers excellent protection for your fingers. They use the super tough lock on the Junkyard knife.

2. The 3 inch drop-point blade is crafted from Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel. This size blade is legal for you to carry almost anywhere imaginable. The Sandvik steel gives you great sharpness and strength with rust resistance.

3. Adding to the super-tough design is the handle, which is made from 410 stainless steel. This is a great feature in my opinion because wood or micarta handles will split or crack. Rubber handles will deteriorate over time and fall apart. This stainless handle is about as tough as they get.

4. While the Kershaw Junkyard Dog is not the flashiest knife on the market, you will immediately notice the Air Force logo on the knife's handle. This makes the Junkyard Dog a great gift idea for the Air Force veteran in your life.

5. Kershaw also offers the same knife with a G-10 handle instead of the stainless steel version. G-10 feels like sandpaper in your hands and gives you a really nice grip.

What I didn't like:

I would like to see the same knife offered with full serrations and longer blade lengths (4-5 inches).

Overall:

The Kershaw Junkyard Dog is built like a tank and is a great value for the money. You will get many years of service from this well-made knife.

Scooter Wheels

Scooter Wheels

For many scooter owners, their scooter wheels are something that they give little thought to until something goes wrong! This might mean that you have a flat tire at the worst possible time or that your wheels are stolen. In any of these situations, it can save you a lot of time, grief and money to think about it about your scooter wheels before you have any problems.

If you don't think that you can change a flat tire yourself, it is wise to join a roadside assistance group like Triple-A since you can simply call them and they will come change your tire. If you plan to change the scooter wheel yourself for the spare in the case of a flat or a punctured tire, it can be a good idea to practice changing it sometime when you are not stressed out so that when you really need to change it, you won't be doing it for the first time and you can get it done in less time and more confidently.

Other scooter owners may decide for one reason or another to replace the wheels that came on their scooter. Often this is more stylistic or performance reasons since most scooters come with adequate wheels. You may want a wheel that is more secure in the rain, or one that has a special color of finish to match your sense of style. When replacing the wheels, consult your manual or dealer in order to be sure that you are buying ones of the correct style in order to maintain a safe ride.

With Thanksgiving just a few weekends away many people will start thinking about Christmas gift ideas. 2010 Target Thanksgiving Friday Sales and Deals - Ad Paper to Be Released in November

2010 Target Thanksgiving Friday Sales and Deals - Ad Paper to Be Released in November

Saving money is something that millions of Americans are thinking about as the overall economy continues to struggle. With this being the case look for many people to wait until Black Friday to get their Christmas gifts. One of the major retailers that is set to release their sales and deals ad is Target. The 2010 edition of this ad paper is sure to include many TVs, computers and digital cameras.

Unfortunately, it is the case that Thanksgiving Friday sales will not be officially released for at least a few more weeks. By knowing someone who works at a major retailer you may have the opportunity to get an inside view on what items will be on sale but for those of us who do not know retail workers it will be the case that we will have to wait until the beginning or middle of November. Fortunately, there should be many great sales and deals for some wonderful items as most retailers realize that Americans are looking to save money with an unemployment rate still above 9%.

Before making any purchases when it comes to Christmas gift ideas it is always important to see what is going to be on sale during the major shopping days of the year. There is very little doubt that Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year as millions of Americans will be out and about after they have spent the Thanksgiving holiday with their families. This can be very good and very bad all at the same time. It can be very good because it offers millions of people an opportunity to save quite a bit of money when thinking about Christmas gifts for their loved ones. They can be very bad because there are way too many people in one spot and it is often the case that someone ends up getting hurt.

With the Target Thanksgiving Friday Sales paper being released before Black Friday it would be a very good decision to come up with a strategy as to how you want to make these purchases. Instead of waiting until the last minute and hoping to get these items on the morning of Black Friday it would be very smart to pick out the items that are must haves and go straight for these products. Unfortunately, some of the more popular sales and deals will cause a great amount of demand which will in turn mean that some of the shelves will be empty.

Men's Skinny Jeans - A Hip Style This Generation

Men's Skinny Jeans - A Hip Style This Generation

Men's skinny jeans are tight fitting and usually hug the ankles. They have followed the thread of women's skinny jeans onto the market. They are favored by the young rock and roll crowd, and interestingly they did not receive acceptance the way that women's styles did in the eighties but this time around they are much more popular.

These jeans can be of any color of denim, and they are tapered on the bottom leaving them tight around the ankles; they are usually tight and maybe cut low at the waist. Men's styles usually have either a zipper fly or a button fly. They are typically a five pocket jean, with two back pockets and two front pockets and small pocket above the right front pocket mostly for decoration but may be used for change. You can find styles that come with different stitching details and may have either double stitching or single stitching up and down the sides of the pants. A favored color for men's skinny jeans is black, and they are worn usually with thick leather belts and can be worn with a t-shirt or collared shirt, usually the t-shirt is the choice.

Purchasing this style of jean can be accomplished by visiting most any men's apparel store that caters to the young hip set. A lot of department stores will carry them as well. Shopping online is also an option. Typically the cost will be comparable to that of any other style of jeans, though the sizing might be a little different and there may be a need to go up one size because of the tight fit and narrow cut. Buying them may prove to be a problem if purchased online for fitting reasons. It may be a better option to purchase a pair from a store where trying on the jeans may be a better option.

Men's skinny jeans are very popular right now. They are trendy and geared at the young hip crowd that lives on the edge of fashion trends. They are a fun way to wear jeans and look great in casual situations.

Cambio Jeans - Stylishly Pricey

Cambio Jeans - Stylishly Pricey

Cambio Jeans are known for designing women's jeans for every occasion. Their collection includes jeans that can be worn to the park and jeans that can be worn to the office. They even have elegant jeans that you can wear to the opera or on a night out. Cambio Jeans also stand out because each style of jean has a female name.

Yes, there's Sharon the straight leg jean. There's Jade the bootcut, Brenda the low-rise with flare leg and so on and so on. They even add additional colors and styles to their collection each season. You can say they are on top of things as far as marketing and style go.

One would think they were perfect if it weren't for price. Sure you can find a pair on sale but those are usually the styles that are not so popular. If you want the cool looking bootcut or even Sharon straight leg jean then be prepared to pay around two hundred dollars. That's a whole lot of money for one pair of jeans.

Cambio Jeans boast that their jeans use quality fabrics and are also an excellent fit. They also assert that their jeans offer comfort and a sophisticated style. One would think they're buying more than just a pair of jeans with that description.

Admittedly they are very stylish but for the price of one pair of Cambio Jeans I can buy a brand name pair of jeans, brand name shirt and a pair of nice shoes. Buying Cambio jeans is certainly an individual call, but for two hundred dollars for their bootcut, I think I'll pass.

The Essential Handbags Every Girl Needs

The Essential Handbags Every Girl Needs

Almost every woman owns handbags of some kind. They are crucial for keeping our things together in a fashionable, manageable way. If you go shopping for a new handbag, the variety and styles available can be overwhelming. How many handbags does a girl really need to have a complete closet? Here are the most essential categories of handbags every woman should own. How many of each you own depends on how much you love handbags.

All women should own an everyday grab bag. This is a basic bag that is mid-sized, a classic style, and matches any outfit. It is usually black, but leather, red, gray, or white can also be chic choices. Next is the "girl's night out" bag; a small, dressy bag just for carrying the essentials like your wallet, cell phone, and lipstick. Fur, sequins, beading, fringe, silk, crocodile skin, or anything that makes you think of elegance and sophistication should be what this bag is made of. A good example of this style bag is the clutch.

The Girl Scout bag is another that should be in everyone's closet. The Girl Scout's motto is "be prepared" and that is the purpose of this bag. It holds anything and everything you could possibly need for any situation. Some examples of this style include messenger bags, hobos, or totes. As a subcategory to the Girl Scout is the diaper bag. New mothers want to be able to stylishly carry all the accouterments they need for their baby and a fun and fashionable diaper bag is the perfect solution.

That is really all you need for a basic wardrobe. However, if you want to expand just slightly from these you could also get a trendy bag. This is the bag that is really hip and cool this year, but may look outdated in a couple years. Bright colors or funky fabrics usually fall into this category. Another possibility is a shopping bag. Reusable shopping bags are becoming a fashion statement of their own with patterns, colors, and striking designs shouting your environmentally friendly choice. Handbags are not just practical, they are fun too because they are an expression of your personality. No matter how many bags you decide you need, carry them confidently and you will be one stylish woman.

Sore Feet? Get Better Boots

Sore Feet? Get Better Boots

There is really only one warning that a given pair of boots does not work with the feet wearing them. If they leave those feet sore when they should not, it is time to replace them with a better pair. The hard part of this is that getting the same model is really not going to improve anything.

The best plan at this point is to switch to a higher quality boot, such as those offered by Tony Lama. Some manufacturers, like Dingo boots, offer very comfortable products designed for going to parties. It is a good idea, though, to have a pair of boots that can take a beating from hard work as well as wear in less serious circumstances.

Work boots are the best choice for comfortable feet specifically because they are work boots. Such footwear has to make sure that it is as ergonomically perfect as possible. This is so that no pair of boots will make workers suffer while wearing them. A poorly designed pair of boots would most likely raise blisters, aggravate them, and raise new blisters the next day. A particularly bad match may distort or even collapse the arches of the feet, or force other bones out of alignment.

A properly fitted pair of boots is so comfortable that the wearer will delight even in putting them on. Anyone wearing the right boots will have to walk himself off of his feet in order to make them hurt. Tony Lama and other firms offer boots that are this good, at very affordable prices, so that replacing those poorly fitting will be easy.

Origin of Black Friday

Origin of Black Friday

Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Fresh from the Thanksgiving celebrations, shoppers throng the stores for best bargains of the year. Many stores like Macy's, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, Gap etc. see huge lines of shoppers from the wee hours of the morning.

Black Friday is an official term given to the day after Thanksgiving and it officially kit starts the Christmas shopping season in USA. Shopping malls, stores and almost all shopping venues give great discounts and offers to tap the enthusiasm of shoppers.

The tradition of this day goes back to the year 1924, when after Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the popular New York City store held a big sale. The sale became so popular that soon, other stores also started having huge sales on the day. In fact, President Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving Day to a week earlier to give boost to the economy after the great depression of 1929.

But this day didn't get its present title for many coming decades and up until 1966, the day was simply known as "After Thanksgiving Sales".

It got this name in 1966 by Police Department of Philadelphia. The rush of hurried shoppers caused a number of car crashes and road rage incidents on this day. All this increased the stress on poor Policemen and they started calling it, the 'Black Friday.'

This term got a whole new meaning few years later, when it was connected to the financial aspect of the day. In accounts bookkeeping, profits are shown in Black color, while loss is indicated in Red. Since, this day brings a lot of profit for the retailers; they started calling it Black Friday.

Whoever came up with the term, one thing is for sure that this day has become a cultural holiday for Americans. People wait for this day the entire year and some of them have even created social groups to go shopping together. The day also sets the right tone for the coming Christmas season.
